Oemeta, a leading manufacturer and supplier of cooling lubricants for metalworking technology, has reported a notable rise in manufacturers and engineers contacting them to help increase tool life and general fluid performance. The company reports an increase in requests from manufacturers and engineers keen to find better cooling lubricant to resolve adverse wear to expensive tooling.
David Woodford, managing director of Oemeta UK, said: “Like many specialists, we are typically contacted by first time customers when they have identified an issue with their current fluid. We can step in, understand the issue and supply a solution which keeps tools machining for longer.”
Cooling lubricants are used in the machining of metal, glass and ceramics to keep the tools from overheating and provide lubrication for more consistent and accurate cutting.
Mr Woodford added: “There appears to be an increase in suppliers offering free fills of CNC machinery with general cooling lubricants. Unfortunately, these products are not always appropriate and can miss key ingredients which then increases tool wear and other issues.”
As a manufacturer and supplier, Oemeta is able to test existing products within its laboratory to evaluate their performance and specify products from their range, which it believes to be the industry’s most comprehensive, to address its customers’ specific requirements.
When asked to resolve tool wear issues experienced by manufacturers and engineers, Oemeta are increasingly discovering the products previously used lack key additives which impact their chemical and physical properties.
International specialistHe continued: “We are finding products are being recommended by generalists which often do not include sufficient key ingredients in terms of quantity and quality.”
Oemeta is an international specialist in cooling lubricants, founded in 1916 and headquartered in Germany. With a presence in over 30 countries, its products are particularly popular in the UK, Germany and the USA and are used by many leading manufacturers, including Triumph and BMW.
Oemeta UK’s managing director, said: “Cooling lubricants perform up to 10 key functions, including removing heat, reducing friction, flushing away particles and preventing corrosion. Superior products can dramatically increase tool life and maximise production by extending maintenance intervals and reducing stoppages.”
Oemeta’s range includes high-performance neat machining oils, as well as a water-miscible and organic-based products which are becoming increasingly popular due to their increased sustainability and safer use in human environments.
Mr Woodford said: “Price is understandably a critical factor, especially when filling many machines across a factory. However, the right cooling lubricant is an investment which keeps overall costs down by lasting longer between refreshes and reducing expensive tooling changes.”
Oemeta manufactures over 300 products for an extensive range of industrial or commercial cutting or machining applications and offer clients a demonstration period in which to trial its products before changing.
He concluded: “UK manufacturing appears to be becoming stronger and stronger. While many of our competitors rely on representatives rather than being present in the marketplace themselves, we want to be on-hand to help our clients take full advantage of every new opportunity.”
