Equipmake, the electrification engineering specialist pioneering a range of integrated electrification products for the automotive, aerospace, bus, coach and off-highway industries, has announced another addition to its proprietary technology portfolio — a new, sector-leading, heavy duty electric motor with double the continuous power of its predecessor.
Equipmake’s new, next-generation HTM-3500 is a ‘state of the art’ e-motor, having the same peak figures of 3500Nm and 400kW as before, but crucially – and most importantly for duty cycles of heavy-duty vehicles – continuous power has been doubled, from 100kW to 200kW at 2,500rev/min. As ever the motor is direct drive too, seamlessly integrating to the propshaft and existing axle without the need for a separate transmission. It was recently launched at
Cenex Expo 2024, held at UTAC Millbrook, where Equipmake is exhibiting (Stand C3-222).
Equipmake CEO Ian Foley said: “I am delighted to hit another major milestone in Equipmake’s
e-technology journey. Our upgraded, heavy-duty HTM-3500 motor sets new standards and is another example of how our proprietary e-propulsion product range is rapidly evolving. By doubling its continuous power, our new HTM-3500 enables electric buses, coaches, trucks and other heavy vehicles to operate with greater real-world performance and efficiency during their regular duty cycles.”
A leading Tier One supplier and developer of electrification technology for the commercial vehicle industry, Equipmake offers a wide range of proprietary electric motors, alongside in-house designed, developed, and manufactured ASIL-D certified inverters, technology aimed at the bus, coach, truck and off-highway vehicle sector, which is rapidly transitioning from ICE to zero-emission vehicles (ZEVs).
A highly-vertically integrated technology, product and solutions company, Equipmake offers the complete solution, integrating its products and systems into almost any vehicle, for an increasingly global customer base. Over the last two years, Equipmake has rapidly signed multiple contracts with major brands, strategic partnerships including an agreement with Perkins, a wholly owned subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc, to develop a bespoke, heavy-duty hybrid electric system, featuring its high torque density electric motor and inverter technologies, and establish initial production capability.
Equipmake also has an agreement in place to license certain products from its range of electric drive motors, inverter, and electric powertrain technology to Sona Comstar – a global automotive systems and components manufacturer, headquartered in India – for applications in electric cars, buses, commercial vehicles and off-road vehicles in India, Thailand and other select South Asian countries.
In addition, the fast-growing company – which has more than doubled its revenue over the last two years – has strategic technology supply arrangements for its lightweight, high-performance motors in the aerospace sector with H55, Vertical Aerospace and, in the space sector, Gilmour Space, alongside supply of its high-performance ASIL-D certified, silicon carbide inverters to electric hypercar brand, Rimac, in the automotive world.
A leading player in the re-powering of ICE buses and coaches to electric through the integration of its complete e-powertrain solution, the Zero Emissions Drivetrain (ZED) – which features Equipmake’s
HTM-3500 motor, its inverter, and power electronics, combined with the latest lithium-ion batteries – the company also carries out conversions of existing vehicles such as fire trucks with REV Group in the USA and Emergency One in the UK, alongside various airside logistical vehicles at airports.
Mr Foley concluded: “Heavy-duty vehicle electrification is happening at pace and our sector-leading e-propulsion technology is accelerating the transition from ICE to ZEVs in multiple markets, from buses to trucks to off-highway vehicles. Demand is soaring as we continue to partner with many of the world’s leading OEMs, building our reputation for electric powertrain innovation and product excellence on the global stage.”
