Artec 3D launches two new ultra-high resolution 3-D scanners

Artec 3D launches two new ultra-high resolution 3-D scannersGlobal 3-D scanning leader Artec 3D has launched Artec Spider II, a new target-free handheld 3-D scanner. Designed to capture complex objects with an impressive level of detail, Spider II scans quickly, in full color and ultra-high resolution. These features make it perfect for applications which require great attention to detail — from in-depth reverse engineering to the creation of hyper-realistic CGI (computer generated imagery).

Building on the success of its very popular predecessor, Artec Space Spider, Spider II features significant improvements including greater depth and field of view, capture speed, and resolution. Harnessing the power of blue-light technology, Spider II captures a unique mix of high-quality geometry and texture data for incredibly detailed models. In practice, this means digitalising everything from tiny surface details on coins to entire engine blocks, down to 0.05mm resolution.

Spider II picks up data four times as quickly — at a rate of 30 FPS (frames per sec). At 1,800cm3, the device’s volume capture zone is also twice the size, so it can scan larger objects, complex geometries and sharp edges, effortlessly and error-free, while ensuring no detail goes uncaptured. With a versatile design, lightweight 950-gramme body, and target-free functionality, Spider II is highly intuitive and straightforward to use. Setup takes seconds, so users can start creating exceptionally lifelike 3-D models in a single click, right out of the box.

Art Yukhin, CEO and president of Artec 3D, said: “With Spider II, we have made a significant breakthrough, honing our original concept to deliver faster, easier, more realistic results. Now, we are bringing an unmatched level of resolution and detail to diverse fields. Spider II is ideal for capturing anything from priceless artifacts to vital forensic clues — wherever fine detail is required.”

Stunningly high resolution scans

Capable of capturing stunningly high-resolution scans of small-to-medium objects, Spider II allows for the creation of larger, more life-like 3-D models, in industries where detail is key. In design, for example, the device’s outstanding color capture capabilities make it an effective tool for artists seeking to realise their creative visions with true-to-life 3-D models.

When it comes to body scanning, Spider II excels at capturing minute anatomical details, such as ears, wrinkles, and even fingerprints. Resulting medical data can be used for device customisation, patient monitoring, digital twin diagnostics, and more. With an accuracy of 0.05mm and advanced resolution, Spider II also yields dense, feature-rich meshes ideal for reverse engineering in industries with fine tolerances like automotive and manufacturing. Its depth of view allows engineers to thoroughly scan complex geometries, ensuring no detail is missed for reliable scan-to-CAD comparisons.

Alongside Spider II, Artec 3D has introduced Artec Point (pictured below), its first target-based laser scanner as part of plans to expand further into industrial metrology. It is a highly accurate new laser
3-D scanner designed to address demand among industrial metrology customers.

Artec Point scanner newWhile Artec 3D scanners already offer rapid, accurate, precise data capture to users across industries, the company has now introduced a dedicated metrology solution. Accurate down to mere hundredths of a millimetre, Artec Point consistently captures the high-quality data needed for reverse engineering, quality inspection, and other demanding metrology tasks.

Mr Yukhin explained: “Our scanners have been making inroads in the field of industrial metrology for years. So it only makes sense to launch a solution that caters precisely to these users’ needs. With metrology-grade accuracy, high repeatability, and long-lasting durability, Artec Point offers a purpose-built industrial solution. We are excited to broaden our offering to customers operating in the metrology space.”

Verified in an ISO-certified lab against VDI/VDE 2634 and JJF 1951 standards, Artec Point’s outstanding 0.02mm accuracy and precision put metrology-grade 3-D scanning in the palms of users’ hands. The device captures objects of different size, finish, and intricacy, including dark, shiny surfaces and deep holes, at speeds up to 120 FPS or 2.8 million measurements/sec. Thanks to its robust metal casing, Artec Point withstands challenging industrial conditions, while its ergonomic grip and lightweight chassis make it easy to manoeuvre into tight spaces for measuring difficult to access areas.

Standing alongside Artec 3D’s existing metrology offering, which ranges from the desktop Micro II to the LiDAR Ray II, Artec Point broadens Artec 3D scanning’s reach into new applications in sectors such as automotive, aerospace, manufacturing, and heavy industry. Artec Point also features full integration with Artec Studio: a powerful, yet easy-to-grasp 3-D scanning software. This allows the device to be easily paired with other Artec 3D scanners to develop novel solutions to complex tasks.

Artec Studio is also packed with algorithms that streamline data processing, while Artec Point’s intuitive UI (user interface) enables operators to achieve repeatable capture results, regardless of skill level. An essential tool for reverse engineering and quality inspection, Artec Point’s usability and consistency lend it a unique value proposition, currently missing from the metrology space.

Mr Yukhin concluded: “In a crowded metrology market, where many scanners offer similar levels of accuracy, Artec Point distinguishes itself with an unmatched combination of precision, intuitiveness, and software integration. With the Artec Studio-powered Artec Point, users can easily achieve accurate results, every time — making it a standout choice for applications like reverse engineering and quality inspection.”

With these launches, the company has further underlined its commitment to 3-D scanning excellence, innovation, and addressing the needs across industries with a full range of solutions that meet users’ specific application requirements.
