SeAH Wind took its first step towards full production of its XXXL monopile on Teesside earlier this month, as the first steel can was rolled as part of pre-production trials. The 7.5m diameter steel can was rolled using the company’s brand new roll bending machines supplied by Hausler as part of pre-production testing. The machines were operated by SeAH Wind staff under the supervision of the manufacturer.
Paul Martin, production manager at SeAH Wind, said: “This is a pivotal and significant milestone for SeAH Wind as it signals the first steel can rolled within the new factory. There has been a lot of progress made to get to this moment.”
SeAH Wind will produce additional large diameter sections simulating the full manufacturing process, gather critical data, validate equipment, and ensure process quality. Situated on 120 acres of land within the South Bank on the Teesworks site, the SeAH Wind monopile factory is close to completion as SeAH Wind enters the last 10% of the build of the 1.1 million ft
2 facility. Once completed, the huge building will stand at 40m high x 810m long x 200m wide.
