Wayland Additive has confirmed the sale of a Calibur3 metal eBeam additive manufacturing (AM) system to
Fraunhofer IPK (Fraunhofer Institute for Production Systems and Design Technology). Fraunhofer IPK is dedicated to finding and delivering production solutions tailored to meet the needs and requirements of its industrial customers and partners. This is achieved through research that is application-oriented and the delivery of the Calibur3 system will specifically focus on new metal AM applications with eBeam technology.
In recent years, Fraunhofer IPK has conducted a lot of research into laser-based additive manufacturing (AM) applications with difficult-to-weld alloys. The Institute believes that the investment in the NeuBeam production technology will increase the range of materials that can be processed with AM, particularly specifying titanium aluminides and CM247, among others.
The other advantage of the patented NeuBeam technology identified by Fraunhofer IPK is the elimination of a complete sinter cake post build, which dramatically reduces the post-processing time and costs required to produce complex geometric applications, even those with delicate internal structures.
NeuBeam technologyTobias Neuwald, head of the manufacturing technologies department at Fraunhofer IPK, said: “We are thrilled to be working with the most innovative manufacturers of cutting-edge technologies. This enables us to process new materials, open up new applications and bring the incredible possibilities of the AM value chain to a wider range of users. Wayland Additive’s Calibur3 metal AM system and its patented NeuBeam technology is exactly what we need to meet today’s challenges in electron beam melting.”
Mike Ford, sales manager at Wayland Additive, added: “We are delighted that the Fraunhofer IPK team are so invested in Calibur3 and NeuBeam technology. It is exciting for us to continue to work in partnership with Tobias and his team to push the boundaries of metal AM and to drive new applications and new materials forward.”
Wayland Additive’s CEO Will Richardson concluded: “This announcement of yet another sale of a Calibur3 system is testament to the continuing growth of the metal AM sector, and the demand for production systems for advanced materials. We are looking forward to working with Fraunhofer IPK moving forward and accelerating even more production applications.”
