United Grinding Group to acquire GFMSLast month, the United Grinding Group signed an agreement with Georg Fischer AG (GF) to acquire the latter’s GF Machining Solutions division (GFMS) with the aim of ‘strengthening its position in the market and serving its global customers with ‘even more comprehensive solutions’.

The companies say that together they will become a global leader in ultra-precision machining. The transaction is valued between CHF630 and CHF650 million and is expected to close in the first half of 2025, subject to regulatory approvals.

United Grinding Group is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of grinding, eroding, laser, and measuring machines, as well as machine tools for additive manufacturing (AM). With around 2,000 employees at more than 20 manufacturing, service, and sales locations, the Group’s brands comprise Mägerle, Blohm, Jung, Studer, Schaudt, Mikrosa, Walter, EWAG, and IRPD. The majority shareholder of United Grinding is Patinex AG, a Swiss holding company wholly owned by Martin and Rosmarie Ebner.

GF has four divisions — GF Piping Systems, GF Building Flow Solutions, GF Casting Solutions, and GF Machining Solutions. Today, GF Machining Solutions is a leading provider of complete solutions for manufacturers of precision parts and tools, as well as mould and die makers. Its portfolio includes machines for milling, eroding, laser texturing, laser micromachining, and AM. In addition, GFMS offers spindles and solutions for automation and digitalisation, and currently employs around 3,500 people at over 40 global locations.
