Sellafield now recruiting its 2025 cohort of apprentices Applications are now open for the 2025 apprenticeship scheme at Sellafield Ltd. With both apprenticeships and degree schemes available covering a wide range of disciplines from business administration to mechanical engineering and nuclear operations, these opportunities are available in both Cumbria and Warrington.

The positions provide first-class training and learning new skills on the job, ensuring that apprentices are well equipped for their future careers. All apprentices have the chance to pursue a qualification relevant to their chosen field by studying with selected high-level training providers across the country. The duration of each programme varies between two to four years, and with no upper age limit for applicants, the scheme is accessible to a broad range of applicants.

Sarah-Louise Shipman, who joined as a safety case degree apprentice in September, said: “After leaving school, I realised that university wasn’t my path, but my passion for learning continued. The Sellafield apprenticeship presented the perfect alternative, and I have gained extensive knowledge in various engineering disciplines. I am particularly impressed by the strong ethical code, which resonates with my own values, and with support from Sellafield and guidance from my mentor, I am excited about advancing my career in the nuclear sector and embracing the learning journey ahead.

Michelle Lambon-Wilks, head of education, skills and social mobility, concluded: “This year marks a record intake for Sellafield, welcoming its largest group of apprentices to date. Additionally, the company has been recognised as one of the top 100 apprenticeship employers in England. Recruiting young talent is crucial to ensuring we possess the skills necessary to work towards our century-long mission of decommissioning Europe’s largest nuclear facility. With this apprenticeship programme, Sellafield is laying a strong foundation for the future, nurturing the leaders and innovators of tomorrow.”
