The Derby-based
Carfulan Group of companies, which supports manufacturing processes through disciplines that include multi-sensor metrology, tool presetting, shaft measurement, and 3-D printing, recently welcomed 30 engineering students from the
JCB Academy to its Advanced Innovation Centre, giving them the opportunity to interact directly with various technologies.
The students gained hands-on experience with machines from across the Group’s divisions — OGP UK (multi-sensor measurement systems), ViciVision UK (non-contact measurement systems for turned parts and cylindrical components), Zoller UK (tool presetting, inspection, storage and management), and SYS Systems (a platinum partner to 3-D printing company Stratasys) — giving the students invaluable insights into the ‘modern engineering and manufacturing world’.
The day was structured to provide maximum learning value, with interactive demonstrations and practical sessions designed to show how advanced technologies can solve real-world engineering challenges. Each station introduced the students to equipment and techniques used at the forefront of industry innovation.
Students also competed in the
Metrios Challenge, which used optical measuring tools to measure key component features in the fastest time. Also included was tooling inspection with Zoller UK, and students were given the opportunity to 3-D printing keyrings to take home.
Lewis Hearne, Carfulan Group’s marketing manager, concluded: “It is always a pleasure to welcome the next generation of engineers to our facility. The JCB Academy students were incredibly engaged and eager to learn, which made the day all the more rewarding. By providing hands-on access to cutting-edge machinery and technology, we aim to inspire them to pursue careers in engineering and manufacturing while showcasing the exciting opportunities available within our apprenticeship scheme.”
