King Charles visits SeAH Wind to tour monopile factoryOn 13 February, His Majesty King Charles III visited SeAH Wind, where he toured the facility as part of his official visit to the Teesside region. Under the leadership of the president of SeAH Steel Holdings, Joosung Lee, His Majesty then met with Sohn Sung-Hwal, CEO of SeAH Wind, chief operations officer Peter Ivey, as well as graduates of the SeAH Wind Academy and apprentices from SeAH Wind.

Key representatives from K2 Construction Management Company, HanmiGlobal UK Limited, and other prominent local ‘green’ energy firms also joined The King. As the factory approaches the commencement of commercial production in March, with final installations underway and trial production activities in progress, The King toured the production line, observing the advanced manufacturing equipment used in the production of monopiles, as well as meeting the skilled SeAH Wind staff who operate the ‘state of the art’ machines.

A commemorative plaque was unveiled to mark the occasion of His Majesty’s visit, after which The King had the opportunity to stand inside an 8m diameter steel can, which had been rolled and manufactured inside the factory by SeAH Wind.

Coinciding with National Apprenticeship Week, His Majesty spoke with SeAH Wind apprentices from Middlesbrough College and Hartlepool College of Further Education, as well as a select group of apprentices from contractors involved in the construction of the huge factory.

Joosung Lee, president of SeAH Steel Holdings, said: “We are truly humbled to welcome His Majesty King Charles III to SeAH Wind. This is a real landmark in the history of SeAH Wind. His presence is a testament to the values of leadership, innovation, and dedication that we hold dear. It was a privilege for the SeAH Wind apprentices to meet His Majesty. The apprentices are the future of our company, it is inspiring to see them front and centre of this big occasion for the company.”

SeAH Wind was established in 2021 as part of SeAH Holdings and has invested £900 million in its UK operations. The company is set to complete the construction of the world’s largest monopile manufacturing facility in Middlesbrough, with an annual production capacity of 400,000 tonnes.
