9Barista ‘brews up something special’ in CambridgeCambridge-based 9Barista, an innovative British coffee brand which has sold more than 22,000 units globally and exports 88% of its products to countries including the USA and China, attributes its success to its unwavering commitment to backing British manufacturing. The company, which produces a world-first jet-engineered stove-top coffee brewer, recently received a King’s Award for Enterprise in the innovation category for its patented high-pressure brewing system.

9Barista is a member of Made in Britain — the globally recognised trademark of British manufacturers which has 2,100 members. The organisation works closely with Government bodies, trade groups, and industry leaders to champion policies that strengthen domestic manufacturing, create skilled jobs, and drive economic growth.

9Barista proudly displays the Made in Britain trademark on its award-winning stove-top espresso machine. Hugh Clark, 9Barista’s research and development engineer, said: “Displaying the Made in Britain logo on our products has given us a huge brand advantage in overseas markets where we export almost 90% of our machines. Customers in China and the USA frequently mention how important it is to them that the 9Barista is produced in the UK.

“When purchasing our products, our customers are investing in a premium stove-top espresso maker that they want to count on for years to come. The Made In Britain mark quickly communicates that we have put care and attention into our supply chain and manufacturing, so an investment in our product will be rewarded.”

Innovative outlook

The Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs recently praised the manufacturer for its innovative outlook and growing success in a visit to the company’s Cambridge headquarters. Made in Britain CEO John Pearce joined the visit, highlighting the value of the Made in Britain mark in an increasingly competitive global market.

John Pearce, CEO of Made in Britain, said: “Pinning the official ‘Made in Britain’ badge to my local MP Daniel Zeichner’s lapel was a proud moment - at the factory of one of our 2,100 British manufacturing businesses, just a short cycle from my home in Cambridge. Export growth of British manufacturing looks closer than ever when you see young entrepreneurs making and selling thousands of their precision-engineered machines to overseas markets. At 9Barista, cutting-edge marketing and world-class engineering come together to brew the perfect espresso, as well as an inspiring vision for the future of UK manufacturing.”

Daniel Zeichner MP, Minister of State at the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs, concluded: “9Barista has taken two of Britain’s great loves – coffee and engineering – and brewed up something truly special. It is amazing to see Cambridge talent creating world-class products and taking them global. This is local innovation at its finest, and I am delighted to celebrate their incredible success.”
