Eaves Machining
(www.eavesmachining.co.uk), based on the Vaughan Industrial Estate in Manchester, has spent £2 million so far this year on four new machines plus upgrading other equipment and facilities.
The company, which has a turnover of £7 million and specialises in the machining of large castings, forgings and fabrications, has large companies such as Alstom, BAE Systems, Siemens and Rolls-Royce on its list of customers.
Currently employing 52 people, it intends to increase its turnover to £10 million in the next few years, as it builds up more business in the energy sector. It has also launched an Apprenticeship Bank — an incentive scheme whereby it saves £20 per week on behalf of each apprentice.
The money is handed when training has been completed and the apprentice is fully qualified. Eaves currently has six apprentices and 24 skilled shop floor employees at its 72,000ft
2 facility.
Managing director Ian Griffiths said: “We are determined to become the supplier and employer of choice in the UK for large sub-contract machining. We have invested in more advanced, precise and faster machinery to help us ‘grow’ the business and to access fast-growing markets such as oil and gas and nuclear.”
Mr Griffiths bought an 80% share in the business in 2010; he has built up its sales from less than £1 million in the last three years.
