Farsoon Technologies, a Chinese additive manufacturing (AM) solutions provider that also has offices in North America and Europe, has reached the milestone of 150 metre-scale large-format metal 3-D printing system sales worldwide, with customers in North America, Europe, and Asia-Pacific.

Included in these sales are the company’s ‘flagship’ FS1521M-series machines, which feature build envelopes up to 1,530 x 1,530 x 1,650mm and up to 32-off 500W lasers; and with 20 sales of these machines, Farsoon is ‘a front-runner’ in metre-scale metal additive manufacturing (AM), with these systems now integrated into full-cycle manufacturing workflows, from R&D to serial manufacturing.

The rapid adoption of such machines reflects growing demand for large-format high-throughput metal AM in sectors like aerospace, where Farsoon’s technology has evolved from a prototyping tool to a ‘production-line staple’. Customers include Falcontech, a leading supplier of AM parts to China’s aerospace industry, which has established dedicated production lines with nearly 40 of Farsoon’s metre-scale metal systems since 2019, to meet batch manufacturing demands of end-use parts.

‘Driving AM industrialisation’

Farsoon says that with installations spanning OEMs, Tier One suppliers, and research institutions, the company’s large-format metal systems are ‘driving AM industrialisation’, with the FS1521M series in particular gaining traction for applications like titanium structural components and copper alloy thermal systems, where size and precision are critical.

Features of this machine include: a dual-layer airflow system solves smoke and particle removal challenges across wide build areas, ensuring process stability; a high-capacity powder management system that achieves 360 litres/hr total recycling efficiency (via four 90 litres/hr modules), enabling continuous production; multi-laser calibration that guarantees a precision of ±0.05mm, even for large builds; an MES platform that reduces labour costs by 70% through the centralised production management of up to 12 machines per operator; and Farsoon software that ensures real-time monitoring and traceability.
