Volvo Cars has commenced production of its fully electric ES90 sedan for European markets, marking a pivotal step in the company’s transition to an all-electric line-up. Manufactured at Volvo’s climate-neutral Chengdu facility in China, the ES90 is the first model to feature 800-volt architecture, enabling ultra-fast charging and extended range — up to 700km WLTP.
The vehicle ‘blends sedan elegance with fastback versatility and SUV-like space, offering a unique proposition in the premium EV segment’. Built on the SPA2 platform and powered by Volvo’s next-generation core computing and Superset tech stack, the ES90 is designed for continuous evolution via over-the-air updates.
Sustainability is central to its design, with extensive use of recycled materials and a verified low-carbon footprint — 31 tonnes CO
2e over its lifecycle when charged with the European grid mix, dropping to 26 tonnes with wind power. Orders are now open in Europe, with deliveries expected later this year and roll-out to Asia-Pacific markets to follow.
