Earlier this week, motion plastics specialist
igus embarked on the UK leg of its global tour celebrating 60 years of innovation. The journey, which began in October 2024, spans 6,000km across multiple continents, using a bicycle made entirely from recycled plastic — a symbol of the company’s commitment to sustainable engineering.
Having already travelled through Asia and Europe, the tour has made notable stops in industrial centres and academic institutions, including Paris, Lyon, Milan and Bologna. Each visit has sparked discussion around the engineering behind the igus bike and its potential applications in real-world environments.
The UK tour continues this theme, with the team cycling across the country to visit customer sites and iconic landmarks. Among the planned stops are
RS Components, a key distribution partner whose global reach has helped bring igus products to thousands of engineers, and
Sumo UK Ltd, where igus components are used in agricultural machinery to enhance durability and reduce maintenance.
Matthew Aldridge, igus UK managing director, said: “This tour is about more than just cycling, it is about connecting with our customers, celebrating innovation, and showing how motion plastics are making a difference in everyday life.”
The route includes Cambridge, London, the Peak District and other locations, with different cyclists joining the journey at various stages. The final destination is Glasgow, where the tour will conclude after showcasing the versatility and sustainability of igus technology.
Daily updates are being published on the igus blog, alongside behind-the-scenes content and highlights from each stop. Engineers, students and sustainability advocates are encouraged to follow the journey
