Starrett’s HDV Series of digital comparators, available in the UK from Market Harborough-based
Optimax Imaging Inspection and Measurement Ltd, represents a significant technical advancement in precision inspection. They combine the precision of traditional optical comparators with the advanced capabilities of vision metrology systems.
These instruments are designed for high-accuracy, non-contact dimensional inspection and are particularly suited for manufacturing and quality control environments. Furthermore, by integrating automated part programming with high-resolution video edge detection, the system ensures sub-micron repeatability across inspection cycles, independent of operator variability.
Configured like a conventional horizontal profile projector, the HDV Series—comprising models like the HDV300, HDV400, and HDV500—features a robust steel frame, long-travel X-Y stages, and high load capacities (up to 150kg for the HDV500). At the core of each system is a high-resolution digital video camera paired with interchangeable telecentric lenses (.11x, .16x, .24x), enabling precise edge detection and measurement.
The MetLogix M3 interface streamlines workflow, reducing training time and enabling rapid deployment across production lines. Digital overlays and DXF file integration eliminate the need for physical templates, enhancing throughput and reducing setup errors. Built-in data acquisition and SPC reporting capabilities support traceable quality assurance, while the shop-hardened chassis and optional clean-air kit ensure long-term reliability in demanding industrial environments.
Additional features include: 0.5μm resolution via Heidenhain glass scales; LED illumination for both surface and profile lighting; 5MP black-and-white camera; 42in touchscreen display; joystick and trackball control for X-Y and focus positioning. The HDV Series eliminates the need for physical overlays, reduces operator error, and supports automated data acquisition and SPC reporting. Its shop-hardened design and optional clean-air kits make it suitable for demanding industrial environments.
