Rural and Industrial Design and Building Association (RIDBA) ‘New Product or Service’ award for its groundbreaking Gemini Laser system — a development hailed as a major advancement in steel processing technology.
The RIDBA Awards, held annually, recognise excellence across the agricultural, industrial and commercial building sectors, drawing entries from contractors, designers and manufacturers throughout the UK. This year, Ficep UK stood out for its innovative approach to integrated steel fabrication.
The Gemini Laser system combines high-powered fibre laser cutting, precision machining and robotic automation in a single, compact unit. Capable of handling plates up to 60mm thick, the machine performs laser cutting, bevelling, drilling, tapping, milling and marking operations without the need for manual intervention or multiple machines. This integration significantly reduces material handling and turnaround times, while delivering enhanced accuracy and consistency.
By streamlining traditionally separate processes, the Gemini Laser addresses long-standing challenges in steel fabrication — particularly in the production of complex, high-precision components. Its impact is expected to be felt across sectors that rely heavily on precision-fabricated steel, including structural frameworks, industrial buildings and agricultural facilities.
Chris Berriman, sales director at Ficep UK, said: “We are delighted to receive this award against some fierce competition. The award reinforces what we have been sharing with the market — the Gemini Laser is a genuine game-changer for steel processors. We are proud to have developed the industry’s first complete machining centre with integrated laser cutting.”
