To Infinity and beyond with PSL Datatrack

Precision engineering company in Norwich achieves year-on-year growth of around 40%

To Infinity and beyond with PSL DatatrackNorwich-base Infinity CNC Ltd, a precision engineering company specialising in CNC machining services, has achieved year-on-year growth of around 40% since adopting PSL Datatrack’s modular production control software (PCS). Owner Will Randall believes the manufacturing software package has been critical to the company’s success. “I don’t think we would have been able to grow at the rate we have without having PSL Datatrack in place.”

PSL Datatrack is tailored specifically for sub-contract precision engineering businesses and covers everything from quotations to invoicing, reducing duplication of work, streamlines administration and provides complete traceability — all essential to businesses like Infinity CNC operating in demanding industries. Mr Randall added “The system has helped us no end. I can now focus on running and expanding the business while remaining confident that day-to-day processes are totally under control with PSL Datatrack operating in the background.”

Infinity CNC supplies precision machining services nationwide, specialising in CNC turning, milling, sliding head machining and routing. The company serves demanding sectors such as subsea, automotive, defence, aerospace, oil and gas, and renewables, where quality, reliability and accurate documentation are critical requirements.

The company merged with Vertex Precision Engineering Ltd in 2023 which Mr Randall had established a year or so earlier, adopting PSL Datatrack from the very beginning. “I was very keen to get everything organised and in place before I started trading, and PSL Datatrack’s reputation in the sub-contract precision engineering industry, backed by so many video testimonials, made it a must-have.”

Mr Randall visited an existing PSL Datatrack user when setting up Vertex. “That customer told me it had made his life so much easier – he couldn’t fault the system. That recommendation, alongside what I had already seen online, sealed the deal.” Transferring the licence to Infinity CNC after the merger was also seamless. He continued: “It couldn’t have been easier. We just supplied new headers and PSL took care of all of the required changes to our paperwork.”

Perfect fit

The flexible software proved a perfect fit for a start-up and continues to support Infinity CNC’s impressive expansion. Mr Randall said: “If you are doing all the quoting and running a business, the quoting needs to be as quick and effective as possible – you don’t want to be sat at your desk very often.” The ability to set up each machine as a different cost centre is invaluable, balancing workloads and ensuring all quotations reflect true costs. “PSL Datatrack makes it simple to get accurate quotes out of the door fast. We have already generated around 5,000!”

Beyond quotations, PSL Datatrack enables Infinity CNC to raise works orders, purchase orders, goods received notes, delivery notes and invoices in seconds – all by re-using information already entered earlier in the process. This smooth data flow saves time, reduces errors and has made day-to-day administration far easier to manage.

Efficiency gains have also been felt across the business. Staff attendance is tracked through PSL Datatrack, making payroll calculations quick and easy. “At the end of the month, payroll takes me a matter of minutes – I just send the report to the accountant and it is done.”

For customers, integrated traceability means that drawings, material certificates and other documents are always available at the click of a button, giving them confidence and saving valuable administration time for Infinity CNC.

Furthermore, implementation and training were smooth experiences for both Will and his father Andrew, who initially used the system together at Vertex. Mr Randall said: “The training was great and easy to follow. Over the time we have used the system, the support from PSL has always been excellent. We know we can always get help whenever we need it.”

Looking ahead, he is planning a move into larger premises to accommodate continued growth. “We need more space – we are desperate for it. This, coupled with PSL Datatrack’s support, will enable us to take on more staff, more customers, and allow Infinity CNC to keep growing.”

Mr Randall concluded: “We wouldn’t have been able to grow at the rate we have without PSL Datatrack. We cannot fault the support we have had for over three years now and look forward to working alongside the PSL Datatrack team for many more years to come.”
