Norfolk-based rigid plastic packaging manufacturer
Coda Plastics Ltd and its parent company, Campbell & Tate Ltd, have been acquired by the
Newship Group in a deal supported by
FRP Corporate Finance. The acquisition strengthens Newship’s packaging portfolio and creates a business with pan-European reach.
Coda Plastics, which has a facility in North Walsham, supplies innovative rigid plastic packaging to a wide customer base, including start-ups and established brands such as Imperial Leather, Original Source and Revlon. Founded in 1973, the company is currently one of the UK’s leading independent plastic packaging manufacturers, producing more than 20 million caps, closures and bottles every month using injection moulding, injection blow moulding, stretch blow moulding and extrusion blow moulding technologies.
Newship Group is a family-owned UK group operating across packaging, construction, engineering and premium hire sectors. The acquisition complements its existing packaging businesses, including
Beatson Clark, a glass packaging manufacturer, and
Pont Europe, a major European distributor of rigid packaging. Together, these businesses will offer customers complete packaging solutions across material types and geographies.
Coda Plastics appointed FRP Corporate Finance’s Norwich team as lead sell-side advisers to take the business to market. Through a competitive process, the team, led by director Alex Hunton and assistant manager Cameron Robertson, identified Newship as a strong cultural fit and managed negotiations and due diligence through to completion. Following the deal, Coda Plastics will continue to operate as an independent business with its own management team and directors. It will benefit from investment and synergies within Newship, as well as sustainability expertise from Pont Europe, helping customers secure more sustainable packaging solutions and adapt to evolving legislation.
Alex Hunton, a director of FRP Corporate Finance, said: “The team at Coda Plastics has built itself a great reputation in the market. This deal will enable it to build on its progress and take its growth to the next level. In Newship Group, Coda Plastics has found a strong partner, with complementary offerings, valuable expertise, shared ambition and close alignments in values. I look forward to seeing what these businesses can achieve together in the years ahead.”
Nick Tate, managing director at Coda Plastics, said: “We are excited to begin this new chapter with Newship. Its long-term approach and investment mindset aligns perfectly with our ambitions for innovation, sustainability, and customer service excellence. Together, we are building a stronger future for our customers and our people. The support provided by Alex and the team at FRP Corporate Finance was second-to-none. They provided exceptional guidance at every step in the process, from helping us to identify the right partner in Newship, and negotiating terms right through to completion.”
