Construction starts on new engineering centre in RotherhamCaddick Construction has broken ground on ‘Project Vulcan Seals’, a new engineering research and development (R&D) centre at Rotherham’s Advanced Manufacturing Park (AMP). The £9.4 million contract will deliver a 52,000ft2 testing, manufacturing and distribution facility, paving the way for Sheffield-based Vulcan Seals to relocate to larger premises.

The investment marks a significant step for Vulcan Seals as it seeks to expand its development and production of high-purity, composite encapsulated seals to meet growing global demand. The new headquarters will also serve as a hub for inspiring future engineers and promoting ‘green’ technologies, reinforcing the Advanced Manufacturing Park’s reputation as a centre for technical excellence. The park already hosts leading names such as Rolls-Royce, Boeing, McLaren Automotive and the University of Sheffield’s Advanced Manufacturing Research Centre.

Steve Ford, Caddick Construction Yorkshire and North East’s regional managing director, said:
“Project Vulcan Seals represents a significant milestone for Rotherham and the wider Yorkshire region as it grows in prominence as the home of advancing innovation and technical excellence.

World-leading engineering

“We are very excited to be working on behalf of Vulcan Seals to ensure its relocation and expansion plans deliver a ‘state of the art’ facility that enables world-leading engineering.” The development will be constructed to the BREEAM Excellent Standard, underlining Vulcan Seals’ commitment to sustainability.

Gerard Quinn, founder and chairman of Vulcan Seals, said: “The company was founded in Sheffield nearly 40 years ago and has evolved into a global manufacturer and supplier of mechanical seals and encapsulated O-rings, with distributors in over 100 countries. Our new global headquarters and manufacturing facility represents the next phase of that journey, with the aim of strengthening our capabilities, expanding our capacity and reinforcing the quality, consistency and responsiveness our customers rely on worldwide.”

Mr Quinn concluded: “Constructed to adhere to the exacting benchmark of the BREEAM Excellent Standard, with the support of our investors, this strategic investment will fuel sustained growth, generate additional local employment opportunities, and deliver long-term benefits to the region.”

The contract adds to Caddick’s growing portfolio of advanced manufacturing projects, which includes Schneider Electric’s £42 million 'net zero' facility in Scarborough, delivered in partnership with Caddick Developments.
