Titomic enters Space Act Agreement with NASATitomic Ltd, a global company specialising in cold spray additive manufacturing (AM) using its Titomic Kinetic Fusion technology, has announced the signing of a Space Act Agreement with NASA to conduct testing and evaluation of components produced using Titomic’s proprietary cold spray technology. Titomic says this is a significant opportunity for the company to demonstrate the capabilities of its ‘advanced manufacturing processes in extreme environments’, adding that the initial evaluation by NASA will assess characteristics of Titomic-produced parts for potential use in aerospace applications.

Jim Simpson, Titomic’s CEO and managing director, said: “We are honoured to be working with NASA on the evaluation of our cold-spray-manufactured components. Our technology offers unique advantages in producing high-performance, lightweight parts without the need for heat or melting, making it ideally suited for space and aerospace applications where structural integrity and reliability are critical.”

Future collaboration

Patti Dare, Titomic’s US president, added: “The successful completion of this initial testing phase could mark the potential for future collaboration in aerospace innovation and supply chain development.”

This Space Act Agreement supports collaboration focused on technical assessment and information exchange and provides Titomic an opportunity to demonstrate the capabilities of its advanced manufacturing technologies for potential defence, space, and industrial applications. Meanwhile, Titomic has received a purchase order for the sale of a low-pressure Titomic TKF 523 system to support Deutsche Bahn’s maintenance efforts for the German railways infrastructure and trains.

Thorsten Hein, CTO of Deutsche Bahn, concluded: “We have tested and studied Titomic Kinetic Fusion over several months and have been impressed with the technology’s ability to allow us to rapidly repair and perform maintenance on key aspects of our rolling stock saving both time and money, thereby minimising downtime of our railway network.”
