TaeguTec expands its tangential milling rangePic: A selection of the new Tang-Sfeed milling inserts

Responding to growing market demand for enhanced tooling versatility in high-rigidity milling operations, TaeguTec has now expanded its Tang-Sfeed tangential milling insert range.

Adding new corner radius options across the LPKU insert family, the expansion encompasses new radius sizes for LPK(H)U 05, LPK(H)U 09, and LPKU 14 inserts, broadening application possibilities whilst maintaining the desired smooth cutting performance.

The Tang-Sfeed system employs tangential insert clamping to deliver exceptional rigidity and cutting stability across a wide range of milling applications. The optimal edge design ensures smooth material engagement and consistent chip formation, while the robust insert geometry endures demanding machining conditions. This combination enables reliable performance in both conventional and high-feed milling operations on ferrous and non-ferrous materials.

The expanded selection provides end users with enhanced flexibility to optimise machining parameters on specific application requirements. The LPK(H)U 05 insert range gains a 0.8mm corner radius option, complementing existing square end, 0.2 and 0.4mm radius variants. The LPK(H)U 09 series adds a 1.2mm radius alongside the established square end, 0.4 and 1.6mm options, whilst the LPKU 14 platform introduces 0.8, 1.6 and 2.4mm radii to address larger diameter cutter applications.

Corner radius selection proves critical in balancing cutting edge strength against surface finish requirements. The smaller radii deliver sharper cutting action and finer surface finishes but require more conservative cutting parameters, whilst larger radii distribute cutting forces across greater edge length, enabling more aggressive material removal rates with enhanced tool life. The expanded range enables end users to fine-tune this balance for optimal productivity in specific applications.

The tangential insert configuration delivers several operational advantages over conventional indexable milling systems. The clamping mechanism positions the insert with the cutting edge perpendicular to the feed direction, maximising edge utilisation and enabling consistent performance throughout insert life. This reduces cutting forces and vibration, particularly beneficial in unstable machining conditions or extended overhang applications where conventional cutting tools struggle to maintain stability.

Insert availability spans multiple TaeguTec coating grades, addressing diverse material groups. The Tang-Sfeed is available in TaeguTec’s TT9080, TT9030, TT8080, TT8020, TT8525B, TT7080, TT7515, TT6080 and TT5525 grades. The comprehensive grade selection enables manufacturers to match insert specification precisely to workpiece material characteristics and machining parameters.

The LPHU 05-ML variant offers a specialist geometry for intricate milling operations, accommodating axial depths from 0.1 to 3.5mm with corner radii up to 0.4mm. This configuration addresses precision component manufacturing requirements where minimal material removal and superior surface finishes are essential.

The inserts are compatible with end mill and face mill cutters from 10 to 200mm in diameter.
