Optimax introduces new video-based inspection system

Optimax introduces new video-based inspection systemWhat if you could inspect an entire part without moving it? The Starrett KMR FOV-0.14X from Optimax is designed for exactly that.

Built for busy shopfloors and QA labs, this system uses a specialised zero-distortion lens and digital CAD overlay software to let operators check part dimensions in seconds. Instead of constantly adjusting lenses, users can simply place a part on the stage and instantly compare it against an overlay to confirm it meets specification.

By using a 0.14x telecentric lens, the KMR-FOV 1.4 provides a wide 60mm x 51mm field-of-view. Combined with an on-screen magnification of 4.7x and a measurement resolution of ±3μm, more of a part can be inspected and measured in a single viewing. Fitted with Video Edge Detection and Metlogix M3 software to import CAD data, it is the ideal tool for modern manufacturing.

The system simplifies quality control by overlaying a CAD template directly onto the live image, making it easy to spot deviations and check precise 2D edges. Its wide, distortion-free lens allows entire parts to be measured in a single snapshot—whether on the shopfloor, in receiving, or in QA.

Because the process is completely non-contact, fragile or flexible parts such as gaskets, plastic mouldings, and tiny components can be measured without touch or damage. Plus, automated reporting and high-res image archiving ensure users always have clear, traceable proof for audits and customer specifications.

Compact and adaptable, Optimax says this video-based inspection and measurement system is designed and manufactured with Starrett’s unrivalled quality woven throughout, delivering high-quality results every time.
