TaeguTec has now expanded its TS-Thread solid carbide thread milling line with four new tool arrivals. The new arrivals include the MTECBF, MTECH, MTECM and MTECK; each is engineered to address specific challenges in everyday and specialist threading operations.
The TS-Thread is TaeguTec's industry-leading threading milling line that utilises circular interpolation to produce threads in a single helical pass. This offers inherent advantages over conventional tapping, as a single tool can produce a range of thread sizes and entry conditions can be controlled more precisely, reducing radial cutting forces and, consequently, the risk of tool breakage in difficult materials. The four new additions to the market-leading programme deepen this capability, giving engineers more targeted options across a broader range of materials and applications.
The MTECBF is a solid carbide thread mill characterised by a notably high flute count, with up to seven or eight flutes and 12 to 24 TPI, depending on the selected diameter. The geometry is optimised for blind-hole threading, where efficient chip evacuation is critical to preventing thread damage and tool failure. The high flute count increases the number of cutting edges engaged per revolution, enabling a higher feed rate per pass without compromising surface integrity. When combined with through-tool coolant, the result is a significant improvement in cycle-time productivity, making the MTECBF well-suited to high-volume production environments.
For operations involving hardened steel or other difficult-to-cut materials, TaeguTec introduces the MTECH. Manufactured from solid carbide and supplied in the TT5515 grade, this tool is designed to thread and chamfer in a single operation, combining two processes to significantly reduce machining time. Incorporating a 45° chamfer geometry into the tool tip eliminates the need for a separate chamfering operation, and the cutting geometry delivers high accuracy and repeatability even in hard materials. The MTECH is available in both ISO and UN thread standards, with TPIs of 32, 20, 18, 16 and 13 for UNC #6 to ½in, and in M5, M6, M8 and M12.
When deep-hole threading is the primary challenge, the MTECM and MTECK offer complementary solutions using multi-lead geometry. The MTECM employs a triple-lead design, so the axial advance per revolution is three times the thread pitch. The MTECK operates on a double-lead principle, with an advance of two times the thread pitch. In both cases, this significantly reduces the cutting load per tooth, which is particularly valuable in deep or blind-hole operations, where cutting forces can cause breakages and compromise dimensional accuracy. Both tools incorporate a central coolant supply to maintain chip evacuation, and they are suited to high-feed cutting, further contributing to cycle time reductions. The MTECM and MTECK are also available in ISO and UN thread standards.
All four new tools are available from stock and priced within the GAL system. They are manufactured to TaeguTec's established TS-Thread quality standards and are compatible with the company's published cutting condition guidance for the full range of ISO workpiece material groups, from steels and stainless steels through to high-temperature alloys and non-ferrous materials.
