Additive Assurance expands into Japan with XAM partnership

Additive Assurance expands into Japan with XAM partnership Additive Assurance has signed a distribution agreement with NTT DATA XAM Technologies Corp. (XAM) to introduce its AMiRIS real-time quality assurance platform to the Japanese metal additive manufacturing market.

The partnership is intended to help manufacturers address quality control, traceability and production consistency challenges as metal powder bed fusion technologies move from prototyping towards higher-volume industrial production.

Melbourne-based Additive Assurance specialises in quality assurance solutions for metal additive manufacturing and says the agreement will strengthen its presence in one of the world's most significant advanced manufacturing markets. The company will work with XAM to support Japanese users seeking greater process control and quality confidence in metal 3D printing applications.

The move comes as sectors including aerospace, automotive and medical devices increasingly adopt metal additive manufacturing for production parts rather than prototype components. While the technology offers significant design and production advantages, manufacturers continue to face challenges related to build consistency, quality assurance and the ability to maintain comprehensive process traceability.

As production volumes increase, demand has grown for technologies capable of monitoring build performance in real time and identifying potential issues during the manufacturing process rather than after a build has been completed.

Under the agreement, XAM will act as the domestic distributor for the AMiRIS platform in Japan, providing sales, implementation support and technical services to customers across the region.
Additive Assurance selected XAM because of its long-standing experience in the Japanese additive manufacturing sector and its established technical expertise. The company is expected to provide a range of local support services designed to ensure successful implementation and day-to-day operation of the technology.

These services will include technical support, system integration and maintenance, drawing on the company's experience within the metal additive manufacturing market. XAM will also integrate the AMiRIS platform with its existing portfolio of metal additive manufacturing technologies, including EOS and AMCM systems, enabling users to incorporate real-time quality monitoring into established production environments.

The partners also plan to support customers in making greater use of manufacturing data to improve production stability and advance digital transformation initiatives.

“We are honoured to partner with NTT DATA XAM Technologies, a company with a rich track record and exceptional technical capabilities in the Japanese market,” said Marten Jurg, CEO of Additive Assurance.

“Through this partnership, we look forward to delivering our innovative real-time quality assurance solutions to customers in Japan and supporting their transition to stable, high-quality mass production.”

Founded in 2020 following the spin-off of the additive manufacturing business division of NTT DATA Engineering Systems, XAM is a well-established supplier of additive manufacturing solutions in Japan. The company's roots in the sector date back to 1993, when it became the country's pioneering distributor of EOS systems.

Today, XAM provides sales and maintenance services for additive manufacturing hardware and software, technical support for production applications and contract manufacturing services. The company is also focused on integrating digital technologies, including artificial intelligence and IT systems, throughout the additive manufacturing workflow, from design through to post-processing.
