New parting and grooving line for swiss-type machines

Posted on 27 Aug 2026. Edited by: Jackie Seddon.
New parting and grooving line for swiss-type machines TaeguTec has introduced its new Top-Cut parting and grooving line, a comprehensive tooling system engineered to meet the growing demand for precision machining of small parts on Swiss-type CNC machines. Developed in direct response to the increasing requirements across the medical, automotive, electronics and aerospace sectors for compact, high-performance turning solutions, the Top-Cut line delivers the rigidity, repeatability, and surface finish that sliding-head machining demands.

At the heart of the new line is a unique central-slot clamping design. Each insert sits securely in the holder's precision-machined protrusion pocket, creating a uniform contact face regardless of cutting width. The dovetail contact geometry maximises clamping stability, prevents insert movement during machining, and ensures an exceptional surface finish. Furthermore, if one cutting edge becomes damaged, the opposite edge of the two-edged inserts can be used immediately — minimising downtime and maximising insert utilisation.

The Top-Cut insert portfolio covers parting and grooving, back turning, and threading operations with TaeguTec’s TPR/L, TBR and TTR insert designations. Available with right- and left-hand designations, corner radii, and a full range of cutting widths, the Top-Cut series of inserts is available with the B, N, P, A and H designations, which designates flat inserts, chipbreakers, profile back-turning geometry, and PCD and CBN-tipped inserts. With a complete range of geometries, dimensions, and corresponding Top-Cut toolholders, the options are almost endless.

TaeguTec recognises the importance of the small turned parts industry, so it has introduced two new grades developed specifically for this market. TT4430 has been engineered for excellent performance across steel, stainless and titanium material groups. Moreover, TT9020 has been introduced as the first-recommended grade for parting operations on titanium alloys. PCD inserts in TaeguTec’s TD1020 grade are available for non-ferrous machining, and CBN inserts in the TB2015 grade are offered for hard material applications.

Complementing the insert range is a comprehensive holder system designed to address the challenges of compact, difficult-to-access work envelopes on Swiss-type machines. TaeguTec has introduced the line with standard TTOER/L-A parting and grooving holders for small-part machining, with toolholders from 8 to 25mm (WxH). The TTOER/L-TB, with square shanks from 10 to 20mm, is a high-pressure coolant variant that delivers coolant directly to the cutting zone. TaeguTec also offers the TTOER-S and TTOEL-SB inter-spindle holders for machining in the narrow spaces between main and sub-spindles, while the TMY-TTOER and TMY-TTOER-TB holders are dedicated to Y-axis operations. In addition, there is an expansive range of modular head options, including the QE1-TTOER/L and QE1Y-TTOER-TB, which provide further flexibility for complex sliding head machine setups.
