TaeguTec has expanded its Slik Solid solid carbide end-milling line with the introduction of the UHP 5 — a new 5-flute premium end mill designed to deliver higher productivity, reduced vibration, and a superior surface finish across a wide range of steel and stainless machining applications.
The UHP 5 builds directly on the success of the UHP 4 series. The UHP 4 established itself as a high-performance platform for stable milling in demanding production environments, combining optimised cutting edge geometry with effective chip evacuation to deliver consistent surface quality under high cutting loads.
The UHP 5 builds on that foundation, introducing a fifth cutting edge to increase feed capacity and overall throughput in side milling and finishing operations.
Central to the UHP 5's performance is a multi-helix flute angle design, with three distinct helix angles applied across the flutes. This combines with unequal spacing of the cutting edges to disrupt the harmonic frequencies that generate vibration during aggressive milling.
The result is smoother, more stable cutting action and a measurably improved surface finish, especially in shoulder milling applications. Working in harmony with an optimised chip gullet geometry that maximises chip evacuation under sustained high cutting loads, the innovative geometry of the UHP 5 reduces the risk of swarf re-cutting and the subsequent heat build-up that can accelerate tool wear.
The UHP 5 is manufactured with TaeguTec's TT5520 PVD-coated grade. This provides high wear resistance and thermal stability across ISO material groups P, M, and K. Suitable workpiece materials include carbon steel, alloy steel, mould steel, stainless steel, and cast iron, presenting the UHP 5 as the perfect solution for general engineering, automotive, and toolmaking environments. The 5-flute UHP 5 is capable of slotting to 1xD, covering both roughing and finishing requirements within a single tooling solution.
Available in both flat end mill and corner radius UHP 5R variants, the programme covers a diameter range of 4 to 25mm. Corner radius options range from 0.3 to 1.0mm, depending on the chosen diameter, with cutting diameter tolerance held to 0/–0.020mm across all diameters. Both variants are available from stock, with pricing available from the TaeguTec UK team.
