MOKE International has launched the latest version of its iconic all-electric beach car.
Built in Britain and popular in some of the world's most exclusive coastal destinations, the new model introduces a series of upgrades designed to improve range, practicality and everyday usability while retaining the distinctive character that has made the MOKE a motoring icon for generations.
The Electric MOKE Mk2 features a higher-capacity battery, increasing its driving range to up to 170km on a single charge. The company says the additional range will allow owners greater freedom to explore new destinations and make longer journeys without compromising the open-air driving experience for which the vehicle is known.
Lorne Vary, chief executive officer of MOKE International, said: “The new Electric MOKE Mk2 has been designed to make open-air electric driving easier, more enjoyable and more practical than ever, while retaining the distinctive character that has made MOKE an icon for generations.
“Time spent in a MOKE is about living life to the full, embracing the moment and enjoying the freedom to explore. This latest evolution, the MOKE Mk2 delivers a more refined ownership experience while staying true to the sense of fun, adventure and optimism that defines our brand."
Alongside the enhanced battery performance, the new vehicle benefits from revised weight distribution and handling characteristics. Power is provided by a 33kW electric motor, helping to deliver a more engaging driving experience whether owners are travelling along coastal roads, visiting remote beaches or exploring tourist destinations.
Charging performance has also been improved. A 6.6kW onboard charger enables the battery to be replenished from 20% to 80% capacity in around two hours, reducing downtime and allowing owners to make more spontaneous journeys. MOKE has also relocated the charging port to the rear of the vehicle, contributing to a cleaner overall appearance.
Practicality has been a major focus of the Mk2's development programme. A new 86-litre lockable front storage compartment provides additional space for luggage, leisure equipment and day-to-day essentials. By moving belongings out of the passenger area, the company says occupants can enjoy greater comfort while still carrying everything required for a day by the sea.
Inside the vehicle, drivers benefit from a redesigned central control panel featuring a simplified layout, including a rotary gear selector and improved warning-light visibility. The changes are intended to make the vehicle easier and more intuitive to operate.
Passenger convenience has also been enhanced with the addition of USB-C connectivity, a 12V power outlet, rear cup holders and wider footwells. Together, these features are designed to make journeys more comfortable and practical for all occupants.
The launch also brings an expanded colour palette for European customers. The firm's California Collection colours, previously available only in the United States, will now be offered alongside MOKE's established Original Colour Collection and Earth Naturals range. New options include Sonoma Red, Laguna Blue and Venice White, joining colours such as Wave Blue, Sunlight Yellow, Sunset Orange, Shell White, Eucalyptus Green and Palm Green.
The Electric MOKE Mk2 will be available to test drive, rent or purchase in several European markets. Prices start at €35,000, with the company positioning the vehicle as a lifestyle-focused electric alternative that combines classic design with modern electric mobility.
The original petrol powered MOKE launched in 1964 was initially conceived as a military utility project by Mini designer Sir Alec Issigonis, based on the small car’s engine and running gear. Although that ambition never came to fruition as a vehicle that could be purchased by the public it went on to become a global lifestyle icon.
