Devon-based J&S has received an order from Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering for a torpedo launch system (for a new Royal Thai Navy frigate).
The system is designed to fire Mk44 and Mk46 torpedoes, but it can be modified to fire next-generation Mk54 torpedoes. The company, which has its headquarters at
Pottington Business Park in Barnstaple, will start delivering the contract in March 2016, with sea-acceptance trials due to follow in 2017.
Managing director Andy Toms said: “J&S is delighted — and proud — to receive this major contract from DSME. We are increasingly looking overseas for business growth opportunities, and we have identified East Asia and the ASEAN region as having great potential. “This order is a welcome boost to our business and raises our international profile as an independent supplier of lightweight launchers.”
