Lodent Precision, Walsall, has taken on five trainees after becoming involved with the local council’s apprenticeship scheme (Walsall Works). It has given them jobs, while allowing them to attend college one or two days a week to achieve NVQ qualifications.
Since September, they have been receiving training in various areas, including bench fitting, manual machining, welding and CAD.
Each one does a three-month rotation in order to secure a working knowledge of every department.
Lodent director Chris Sharratt said: “We’re proud of all our apprentices; their enthusiasm and willingness to learn is a credit to them. This is the way forward, not only for us but for all employers in the UK.
We’re delighted to be part of this revolution and grateful for the support we have received from Walsall Council.”
The Walsall Works scheme is open to local companies that work in a range of sectors, including engineering and manufacturing, construction, professional and business services, health-care and logistics.
Employers could receive a grant of up to £6,000 for each apprentice they take on.
