Hamid Guedroudj, who founded Edinburgh-based Petroleum Experts in 1990, has been named as the Ernst & Young Scotland Overall Entrepreneur of the Year 2014 at an awards dinner held at Gleneagles Hotel. The judges described him as a “stand-out entrepreneur” and drew attention to the “phenomenal achievements” of his company.
Mr Guedroudj set up his engineering technology company without any external finances; it now has more than 25 global clients, and its technology is used in more than 200 oil fields.
Jim Bishop, senior partner at EY Scotland, said: “Petroleum Experts has enjoyed staggering growth, becoming a global industry leader along the way, and is in an incredibly strong and secure position. I have no doubt that the business will continue to enjoy great success under his leadership.”
Mr Guedroudj beat 19 other business leaders to the award. He will represent Scotland at the EY UK Entrepreneur of the Year final in October.
