Pedalling to Paris for charity

Pedalling to Paris for charityDick Aldrich, sales director at Erith-based RK International Machine Tools Ltd (www.rk-int.com), led the charge to the summit of Holme Moss ahead of the Tour de France peleton.

This was all in the name of charity — and a gruelling practice before Mr Aldrich competes in the Royal British Legion’s Pedal to Paris ride 4-7 September.

He is one of the 300 riders chosen by the charity to participate in the London to Paris challenge, which aims to raise over £500,000 to support ex-servicemen. The challenge entails riding more than 110km a day, for four days, to arrive at the Arc de Triomphe on 7 September.

“Before reaching Paris I will have clocked up my 60th birthday, it is a massive challenge but my sacrifice to complete this ride is minimal compared to the people who will benefit from my efforts and those of the other 299 riders. The money raised will support the rehabilitation of our service men and women who have been wounded in action.”

Mr Aldrich has already raised over £3,500 through donations from friends, family and colleagues, but anyone wishing to support him can make a donation via the Web (www.justgiving.com/dick-aldrich).
