Kingsland Engineering (www.kingsland.com) has installed a new Sodick SL600Q high-performance wire EDM machine at its headquarters in Sheringham, Norfolk.

This is being used by the manufacturer of structural-steel processing machines to make any special tooling required by its customers — such as punches, dies and blades.

Managing director Bernard De Muynck (pictured) said: “Before installing the Sodick machine, we operated two other wire EDMs from another supplier. We had huge reliability problems with those machines throughout the last two years, so the decision was taken to source a replacement.”

After a review of the equipment available from all the main EDM technology suppliers, the Sodick SL600Q was chosen “because of its superior technology, reliability, accuracy and speed”.

Kingsland’s tooling is made from D2 tool steel that is heat-treated in a vacuum furnace to ensure a long and productive working life — processing a wide variety of metals, including stainless steel.

The tools — of numerous shapes and sizes — are manufactured on the SL600Q to extremely tight tolerances, and the company offers next-day despatch.
