The European Commission has granted 293 million euros in financial support for a number of projects to modernise transport systems in Poland — in Warsaw, Lódz, Szczecin and Poznan. Regional policy commissioner Corina Cretu said: “These projects will improve the mobility of Polish citizens, ensuring safe, sustainable and environmentally friendly travel conditions.”
The first project will see the purchase of 85 low-floor trams for Warsaw. The second will see the purchase of 20 double-deck coaches, two control coaches and two locomotives for the railway network in the Warsaw metropolitan area.
A third project will involve construction and upgrade of tram lines and tram stops, and the fourth project, with a 52.2 million euro investment, will upgrade sections of the tram track in Western districts of Szczecin and the refurbishment of the Pogodno depot in order to adapt it to the requirements of low-floor rolling stock.
The last project will see the modernisation of 5.31km of the tram and trolleybus network along Grunwaldzka Street and along lines linking the stadium to the city centre, to the railway station and to the airport.
