Newcastle-based Silverstone Building Consultancy (
www.silverstonebc.com) has finalised its project management contract to oversee the construction of a new £5 million manufacturing plant for County Durham car parts maker Gestamp Tallent.
The new facility is the result of a year-long programme that started with the partial demolition of Plant 1 at Gestamp’s Newton Aycliffe headquarters; it is a 45,500sq ft press hall that is 18m high in places to accommodate specialist racking and two new presses.
Gestamp (
www.gestamp.com), which employs over 1,300 people, has a total of five manufacturing plants at its extensive site, where it designs and manufactures structural chassis products for automotive companies that include Nissan, Volvo, Ford, Jaguar, Land Rover, Honda and BMW.
Silverstone previously (in 2012) project-managed the construction of Plant 5 — an £8 million facility that gave Gestamp a 185,000sq ft extension to its existing production facilities.
Silverstone director Richard Farrey said: “Gestamp is one of our longest-standing and most valued clients. We have developed an excellent understanding of their manufacturing systems over the past few years which has enabled us to tailor our services to their specific needs.
“Furthermore, we have now been enlisted to project-manage the redevelopment of a further £1 million factory for Gestamp, as part of the company’s on-going investment.”
Peter Gallone, plant director at Gestamp Tallent, said: “As our business and customer base continues to expand, we need to ensure that assembly lines and production facilities are renewed to increase efficiency and output.
“This latest phase of development is part of a long-term investment strategy to renew some of the older facilities on site. The redevelopment of Plant 1 has given us another ‘state of the art’ manufacturing facility to mirror Plant 5.”
