Two new insert grades from Sandvik

Two new insert grades from SandvikWith its GC3225 and GC3210, Sandvik Coromant (www.sandvik.coromant.com) has introduced two new grades for machining both grey and nodular cast irons. GC3225, which is a first-choice grade for cast-iron turning applications, is designed to provide secure and trouble-free machining in even the most difficult conditions.

Meanwhile, GC3210 is a grade with a high resistance to flank wear; it is suitable for turning in all cast-iron materials under good-to-average machining conditions. It enhances reliability and productivity when undertaking intermittent cuts, high cutting speeds and wet or dry machining — plus machined surfaces and light cast skin.

To provide the edge-line security and wear resistance necessary for optimised performance, GC3225 and GC3210 feature a CVD coating combined with a fine-grained hard substrate.

Additionally, these inserts feature optimised micro-geometries that provide a light cutting action for reduced cutting forces and improved tool life.

Cutting tests undertaken by customers have shown that, compared to a competitor’s grade, GC3225 can achieve a 70% increase in tool life when machining nodular iron. When using GC3210 to machine differential case covers, tool life increased by 38%.
