Sheffield-based WNT (UK) Ltd (
www.wnt.com) has announced the introduction of a range of vibration-damping boring bars featuring an internal coolant supply direct to the cutting edge.
The bars combine a conventional steel body with a pressed carbide core.
According to WNT, this provides similar performance to that found in solid carbide tools with respect to damping and torsional stiffness but offers a better price/performance ratio, thanks to the reduced amount of carbide required.
The carbide core is embedded within the steel shaft, and the coolant can flow around this to exit immediately behind the cutting edge.
WNT vibration-damping boring bars are available in a selection of ISO insert styles, with bar dia-
meters extending from 6 to 32mm.
