Energy company Ecotricity (
www.ecotricity.co.uk) says that it is to complete the construction of a new wind farm in its home county of Gloucestershire by the end of the year.
The three-turbine site is located at Alveston, close to the junction of the M4 and M5; it will become the Stroud-based company’s second wind project in the county (following the Lynch Knoll wind turbine at Nympsfield, which was built in December 1996).
Last year, the company secured planning permission for a new grid connection at the site, to ensure that the previously consented wind park could go ahead. Primary works to prepare the site and create access tracks have already taken place.
Ecotricity will now undertake construction of the crane-pads, dig the foundations for the turbines and continue work on the sub-station.
The turbines for the development are expected to be delivered in October, and to be connected to the national grid by December.
When the farm is operational, the company plans to set up a community benefit fund, which will be managed through its charity arm — the Green Britain Foundation.
