Wolverhampton-based Sherwood Aluminium (
www.sherwoodaluminium.co.uk) has invested in a Tekna four-axis CNC machining centre supplied by Emmegi (UK) in Coventry.
has been using Emmegi machines for many years, and its factory features a Comet T6HP machining centre, a Classic Star twin-head saw, a number of 550SCA single-head sawing machines, and an Automatica cut-off machine.
In recent years, the global Emmegi group has acquired both the Tekna and Keraglass machinery businesses, so customers buying from Emmegi (UK) now have access to a much broader range of machine options.
Sherwood required a flexible machine with a larger capacity than its existing Emmegi Comet T6HP machining centre — and it needed to be compatible with a Renishaw probe.
After a comprehensive audit of Sherwood’s immediate and long-term needs, Emmegi recommended the Tekna 944. This has a mobile gantry and an 8kW high-torque electro-spindle suitable for the heavy-duty machining of large sections of aluminium and steel; this moves along the A axis, allowing machining through a full 180deg around the section.
The X-axis travel is 7,000mm, and the Y-axis travel is 1,070mm. A clamp unit ensures the correct positioning of the sections, and counter-blocks can be mounted quickly and accurately.
A 12 piece tool magazine mounted on the gantry gives customers maximum flexibility and reduces tool change times to optimise the productivity and efficiency of the machine.
