Medical-device manufacturer to expandRenfrewshire-based Vascutek Ltd (www.vascutek.com) is to receive a £33 million investment from its Japanese parent company (Terumo Corporation) to fund a major expansion of its headquarters and manufacturing facility in Inchinnan to help drive further growth.

The company produces a wide portfolio of implants, with a particular focus on treating patients with aortic disease. These implants have helped to save or improve the lives of over two million people in over 100 countries world-wide.

The funding will be used to scale up existing facilities at the site and to add two new ‘clean-rooms’ — required for the production of high-quality implants — plus a new sterilisation suite. The first phase of the project is due to start in April and is scheduled for completion in 2021.

CEO Paul Holbrook said: “This is an exciting time for the company, as we look to secure further growth in the surgical grafts market.

“The investment from Terumo is testament to the quality, efficiency and excellent customer service delivered consistently by our team at Inchinnan, and it will allow us to further expand our business globally.

“It is an important milestone in our mission to create innovative products that benefit patients and their families across the world.”

Established in 1982, Vascutek employs around 800 people. It has won eight Queen’s Awards, with the most recent (in 2016) being for innovation.
