Range of machines for any size of company With eight machines on display, extending from twin-spindle twin-turret turning centres through to high-speed five-axis vertical machining centres, Sheffield-based TW Ward CNC Machinery Ltd (www.wardcnc.com) will display models from company principals Axile, Hartford and Hyundai-Wia (Hall 19 Stand 560).

The Axile G8 five-axis overhead gantry-type vertical machining centre is designed for sectors such as aerospace, where it is successfully machining turbine blades, for example.

The machine has an 800mm-diameter table for workpieces weighing 1,300kg, a work envelope of 670 x 820 x 600mm, a positioning capability of 0.008mm, a repeatability of 0.004mm, and a feed rate in X, Y and Z of 60m/min.

Two HSK A63 motor spindles options are available: a 39kW 15,000rev/min unit (187Nm of torque) and a 35kW 20,000rev/min unit (130Nm of torque).

The spindle has through-spindle coolant at 20 bar as standard, with options of 70 bar and higher. Twin automatic tool-exchange carousels with 32/64, 48/96 or 60/120 tools are available.

The two Hartford open-fronted vertical machining centres on show both feature the latest Hartrol Plus control system.

With a pallet surface of 1,150 x 600mm, a work envelope of 1,000 x 600 x 630mm, rapid-traverse rates of 20m/min and a cutting feed rate of 12m/min, the Hartford Pro-1000 has a 10kW 8,000rev/min spindle (15kW is an option).

Hartford’s heavy-cutting HCMC-1682 — also an open-fronted vertical machining centre — has a pallet surface of 1,750 x 820mm, a work envelope of 1,600 x 820 x 660mm, rapid-traverse rates of 18m/min and a cutting feed rate of 10m/min. It features a 15kW spindle.

Ward CNC’s stand will also showcase five Hyundai-Wia machines.

The LM1800TTSY turning centre with Y axis and twin spindles/turrets (12 tools on each) has 8in chucks on the main spindle and sub-spindle and accommodates bar up to 65mm in diameter.

The swing over the carriage is 290mm, while the maximum turning diameter and length are 230 and 673mm respectively.

Continuing the Hyundai-Wia multi-tasking turning-centre theme, the L2000LSY slant-bed CNC lathe has an 8in main chuck and a 6in sub-spindle chuck; it offers travels of 265mm in X, and 830mm in Y and Z.

The Hyundai-Wia XF-2000 five-axis vertical machining centre offers a maximum spindle speed of 40,000rev/min, a work envelope of 300 x 300 x 200mm, rapid-traverse rates of 50m/min and a 200mm-diameter table that can accommodate 15kg loads.

Hyundai-Wia’s LV-450 compact VTL with C axis and 12 driven tools has a swing of 620mm and a maximum turning diameter and turning length of 465mm. It features a 12in chuck and a 22kW/3,000rev/min spindle.

Completing the Hyundai-Wia display will be the iCut 400TD open-fronted twin-pallet/dual-table (both 650 x 400mm) vertical machining/tapping centre.

It has a 14kW 12,000rev/min spindle and travels in X, Y and Z of 520, 400 and 330mm respectively. A total of 14 tools are carried by the ATC as standard (optionally up to 24), while control is via the Hyundai-ITROL.
