Plastic recycling plant opens in HaydockMerseyside-based Coral Products (Mouldings) Ltd — a subsidiary of the Coral Products Group — recently launched a recycling plant in Haydock.

The aim of the business is to stop plastic going to landfill, to up-cycle waste plastic and to create a box-to-box process (for example, recycling waste recycling boxes and creating new).

Managing director Neil Ashurst said (www.coralproducts.com): “Our commitment to stop plastic going to landfill, up-cycle and recycle waste plastic and take steps to stop plastic entering the ocean is testament to how a business can adapt to change.

“We are a plastics company with a conscience, and we take our responsibilities with regard to environmental impact seriously.”

The plant can process one tonne an hour of polypropylene and HDPE (high-density poly-ethylene) materials. In addition to using waste produced on-site, Coral Products is buying in waste from third parties — there has been a high level of interest in the plant from local authorities and businesses, both in the UK and internationally.

Chief executive Mick Wood said: “It is an exciting time at Coral. There is increasing demand for this type of facility, as improved recycling is an area high on most people’s agenda.”
