The StarMill SED range of end mills from Leeds-based TaeguTec UK Ltd (www.taegutec.com) has been expanded to offer a greater choice of diameters, lengths, corner radii, coatings and geometries.

Already established for its ability to cut materials such as stainless steel, titanium, Inconel and other high-temperature alloys, the StarMill range has been extended with the introduction of the SED4 UL range of four-flute extra-reach end mills.

The new UL cutters introduce end mills with diameters of 3, 4, 6, 8, 10 and 12mm and overall reaches from 63 to 92mm (depending upon the chosen diameter); and with flute lengths from 10 to 40mm, this addition to the SED line-up enables manufacturers to reach deep into small cavities.

In addition to the SED4 UL line, TaeguTec has introduced a range of SED4 UR end mills with a corner radius designed to ensure “enhanced tool life and machining performance”.

These tools are available in diameters from 2 to 16mm; and each diameter is available witha selection of corner radii.

The 4mm-diameter tool offers a choice of a 0.1, 0.2 or 0.5mm corner radius, while the (largest) 16mm end mill is available with a 0.5, 1, 2 or 3mm corner radius.

All StarMill SED cutters feature unequal flute spacing and a high helix angle to “reduce harmonic effects and vibration” during high-speed machining.

Furthermore, polished flutes improve chip evacuation, while the new TT5515 coating has been formulated to “prolong tool life under the most challenging of machining parameters”.
