Hexagon introduces new 3-D scanning solutionHexagon has expanded its portfolio of precision measurement technologies with the launch of Hyperscan, a portable 3-D scanning system engineered for demanding industrial environments. The new platform brings together high scanning speed, robust data capture and simplified deployment, offering manufacturers a tool designed to streamline both handheld and robotic inspection tasks.

At the core of Hyperscan is a high‑resolution data stream that activates instantly, removing the need for operators to place reference targets on the component before scanning. The system’s Hole Flash Capture function automatically identifies and highlights holes in real time, reducing manual intervention, while its advanced edge‑recognition capability adapts to varied surface conditions to deliver consistent results across different materials.

Hyperscan meets the stringent requirements of the VDI/VDE 2634‑3 standard, with accuracy and performance verified by an ISO 17025‑accredited laboratory. Its 610 × 640mm scan area is one of the largest in its class, enabling rapid and precise measurement of parts up to 7m in size. The system’s multi‑mode scanning allows users to capture intricate features, sharp edges and broad surfaces in a single, uninterrupted workflow without switching between different scanners.

Optical tracking

Hexagon has also prioritised mobility and operator comfort. A built‑in battery and Wi‑Fi 6/7 module allow unrestricted movement around the shopfloor, making the scanner particularly suited to production lines, onsite work and restricted spaces. Optical tracking helps maintain accuracy even when the operator or the component is in motion, or when scanning takes place in areas subject to vibration.

Integration with existing metrology workflows is designed to be straightforward. A one‑click interface enables immediate data transfer for users of PC‑DMIS, Inspire, SpatialAnalyzer and other leading metrology platforms, reducing processing time and helping manufacturers accelerate inspection routines. The system is also ready for automation, with compatibility across a wide range of rotary tables, industrial robots, cobots and Hexagon’s own PRESTO automated inspection cell solutions.

Developed for the complexities of modern industrial conditions, Hyperscan is suited to sectors such as automotive, aerospace, energy and precision manufacturing. Its speed and flexibility make it equally effective for in‑line inspection and for assessing large or safety‑critical components, offering production teams a reliable means of improving quality control and optimising throughput.

The platform is available globally in two models. The Hyperscan Ultra provides a working range of up to 5.5m, while the Hyperscan Super extends this to 7m and achieves capture speeds of up to 8.3 million points per sec, making it suitable for large‑scale parts and assemblies.
