CAF has been awarded a contract by Transport for London (TfL) to design, manufacture and supply a fleet of 43 trains for the Docklands Light Railway (DLR).
The five-carriage trains will be based on CAF’s proven Metro vehicle design, with the first entering passenger service in 2023.
Thirty-three of the trains will replace DLR’s oldest rolling stock, which is nearly 30 years old, while the other 10 will increase the frequency and capacity across the network.

John Fox, TfL’s director of rail and sponsored services, said: “Replacing the oldest trains on the DLR and introducing a new modern fleet will ensure that the railway continues to support growth in the Docklands area.
"With walk-through carriages, real-time travel information, air conditioning and mobile-device charging points, the new trains will give customers a more comfortable and reliable service, replacing rolling stock that is coming to the end of its operational life.”
Meanwhile, CAF has submitted a bid for the HS2 project.
The company proposes the use of its high-speed Oaris ‘platform’ to meet the exacting requirements of a contract to design, build and maintain at least 54 trains for Phase One of the project.
