North Shields-based Monitor Coatings — a developer and manufacturer of ultra-dense wear-resistant coatings for the oil and gas, steel, marine and defence, power and aero-space industries — recently welcomed the Mayor of North Tyneside (Norma Redfearn) and members of the North Tyneside Business Forum, who came to see for themselves why the company won the Forum’s
Business of the Year and
Digital and Innovation awards.
One factor was a high-profile contract to develop (and apply) a non-skid wash-resistant deck coating for the Royal Navy’s two new aircraft carriers.
Managing director Rebecca Allcock said: “We’ve had a lot of support from North Tyneside Council and the Business Forum, and we wanted to let people know that we have a business making a real impact on a global scale right here in North Shields.
“We invest in our local area, attracting, recruiting and retaining people with the right skills for our pioneering work. Indeed, many of our team previously worked in the ship-building industry and have skills that helped us in the development of the Carrier Deck coating system.”
The Mayor said: “North Tyneside is a great location for businesses, and Monitor Coatings has shown that it can create new innovative technology that is a world leader, with applications in the military, oil and gas and aviation sectors to name but a few.
“I was very impressed with what I saw, both in terms of the products created and the skill and aptitude of the workforce.”
