Successful event for Seco ToolsSeco Tools reports that its annual Inspiration through Innovation manufacturing best-practice event, hosted last month at the company’s Technology Centre in Alcester and billed as ‘The Aerospace Event’, was a huge success, with a total of 747 visitors attending over the two days.

Mike Fleming, Seco’s strategic marketing, products and services manager, said: “The aerospace industry really does transcend national boundaries and Inspiration through Innovation 2019 had a real international flavour.

"We welcomed visitors from as far afield as China, South Korea, Australia, India and the USA, as well as from Europe and the UK. Indeed, over 22% of visitors were from outside the UK.

“We deliberately targeted this year’s event at key decision makers in aerospace component manufacturing companies and in other influential and advisory organisations operating in the supply chain.

"An audit of visitors by job function revealed a good cross-section of company CEOs and managing directors, as well as production managers, operations managers, R&D managers, senior manufacturing engineers and applications engineers.”

More than 30 technical partners — including machine tool builders, CAD/CAM providers and work-holding, metal-working fluid and metrology suppliers — worked closely with Seco to design, develop and deliver the event.

Dave Magnall, Seco’s Innovation Partnership Manager (, said: “This event is an excellent example of what can be achieved when we are committed to working together.

Our event partners came together to co-create innovative best-in-class manufacturing demonstrations for the aerospace manufacturing industry.”

Nine machining demonstrations (all aero-space-focused) included aero-engine blisks, discs, blades and combustion chamber sections, as well as fuel connectors, wing pylons, hinges and passenger-seat components.

Furthermore, most of the materials that are used in the aerospace sector were machined at the event, including titanium, Inconel, aluminium and carbon-fibre composites. There were also seven seminars over the two days, each one led by an industry expert.
