Lothian Buses to recruit 10 apprenticesLothian Buses is looking to recruit 10 new apprentice technicians to join its technical team.

Open to young people aged 16-19, the apprenticeships will run for four years and lead to an SVQ in bus and coach mechanical/electrical.

Working with Glasgow Training Group, the apprentices will be given the opportunity to develop their skills in a purpose-built centre, while also benefitting from practical experience within Lothian garages and the company’s
on-going partnership with Volvo Truck and Bus Scotland.

Lothian (www.lothianbuses.com) has trained over 80 apprentices over the last decade, with most of them still working at the company.

Engineering director Jim Armstrong said: “At Lothian, we understand the importance and value of helping to develop technical skills among our young people, and for nearly 20 years, we have worked hard to make sure that they receive the best training possible.

"Our apprentices can also draw from the experiences of our dedicated engineering team and on-the-job training to help ensure that their skills are well rounded.”

Last year, Lothian apprentice Jamie Aitken won the Top Scoring Bodywork Apprentice at the 2019 Institute of Road Transport Engineers awards.

Young people interested in applying have until 28 February to submit their applications.
