DAF (
www.daf.com) has produced the 10,000th PACCAR body at its Lancashire-based Leyland Trucks facility — a milestone in the truck company’s in-house body programme which manufactures a wide range of vehicle bodies on a dedicated production line.
PACCAR Inc is a commercial-vehicle manufacturer that has a portfolio of leading brands in the USA, Europe and throughout the world; it is the parent company of both DAF Trucks and Leyland Trucks in the UK.
Over 500 customers have taken advantage of the PACCAR body programme since its launch in 2007, including major fleet operators such as Ryder, Royal Mail and Enterprise.
The bodies include box, Aerobody and curtain-sider variants, with a range of options for length, height and width, plus other features.
Operator Hallam Express in Sheffield was the recipient of the 10,000th vehicle — a 12-tonne DAF LF 180 curtain-sider (part of an order for eight vehicles that will be split between Hallam Express and sister company 4S Distribution).
At a special ceremony, Hallam Express and 4S Distribution managing director David Simpson received the keys from Leyland Trucks managing director Brennan Gourdie. Mr Simpson said: “We were very pleased with the ability to specify and acquire a complete bodied vehicle through Evans Halshaw — our DAF dealer in Sheffield.
"The ordering process was very simple, and the lead time was reduced substantially — it is a genuine ‘one-stop shop’ service.
"The same high-quality engineering is evident in the PACCAR body as it is in the chassis, and we are looking forward to an extensive trouble-free service life from our DAF vehicles.”
