Apex invests in new hand-held imaging scannerLondon-based Apex Engineering Services, which supplies technical services to the world-wide construction industry, is the first customer in the UK to purchase the BLK2GO wireless hand-held imaging laser scanner from Milton Keynes-based Leica Geosystems (part of Hexagon) (www.apex.uk.net).

The firm’s surveyors can now carry out a variety of existing and new tasks quickly and efficiently, and the BLK2GO has created opportunities in other markets, including the film industry, public safety and forensics.

The BLK2GO can seamlessly capture 3-D environments while the user is in motion; it continuously creates a digital representation of reality in the form of 3-D point clouds.

Its compact and hand-held design, with one-button operation, allows it to scan difficult spaces and objects.

Graham Sharp, business partnerships manager at Leica Geosystems UK (www.leica-geosystems.com), said: “Apex is a long-term LG customer with a real emphasis on how it can best deliver its services.

“Through regular consultation, the company looks at how to push the boundaries with new technologies and workflows, and the purchase of the BLK2GO adds to its extensive portfolio of Leica Geo-systems solutions.”
