Okuma introduces new VMC for large workpiecesWhether producing cylinder heads, forming and cutting tools or components for semiconductor production lines, the demands placed on the machine tools used continue to grow, not only in terms of technology, but also in regard to the workpiece dimensions they can handle.

Germany-based Okuma Europe GmbH (www.okuma.eu), the sales and service affiliate of Japan-based Okuma, a world leader in CNC machine tools and process optimisation, has now introduced its new MB-80V vertical machining centre (VMC) in Europe.

With table dimensions of 1,600 x 800mm and X/Y/Z travels of up to 1,600 x 1,050 x 600mm, the largest in the MB-V series will bring new machining options that will benefit all industries that need to machine large workpieces.

When used, for example, for machining cubic parts, mould components or semiconductor parts, the VMC, which has a proven rigid double-column structure, excels with its repeatable accuracy, excellent dynamics and high-performance milling which ensures maximum quality, productivity and precision.

In addition, the machine has been designed in such a way that significant quantities of aluminium chips can also be removed.

The already simple operation of the MB-80V with the Okuma OSP P300 controller can also be customised to meet individual customer requirements. A number of control engineering applications are available, such as the "Hyper-Surface" high-speed control or "Machining Navi", to avoid vibrations during machining.

The software option “One-Touch IGF” makes workshop programming easier. The “Thermo-Friendly Concept” from Okuma also guarantees maximum process reliability, dimensional stability and shape accuracy as standard.
